Sleepers or whatever you might want to call them somewhat have a sweet spot in every petrol heads’ mind. Smoking some douchebro who doesn’t know what is happening to him has some appeal. It’s not exactly my cup of tea, especially as I abhorr anything that is street racing related, but the idea of a car that looks like nothing but packs some serious punch is something I just like.
How about a VW K70 body on a W8 drivetrain?

I really like the W8, but the 3.6 VR6 is becoming more appealing to me as a substitute. But IIRC, they don't have a longitudinal version of it, while the W8 was ONLY longitudinal, so hooking it up to a RWD chassis is probably easier. Or not. If you have this level of money and skill, it's probably just details.

my thought’s as well. But with the VR6 you could go the AWD route. Again if you have the cash to throw at such a thing. I think for ease of use the w8 is great for this and ultimately both are probably gonna fight for least reliable of the two. So might as well get silly and go with a w8!

Except for two things — weight (w8?) and serviceability favor the VR6. Not to mention additional tuning. But the VR6 only works with the transverse Haldex AWD, while the W8 is a Torsen-based AWD beast. Why must there be so many first world problems?

damn. good point.
it looks as far as weight a w8 weighs in at 420 ish pounds and a vr6 at about 310 pounds.. I mean.. really whats a 110 pounds?
Still say w8!! screw ease of repair!

FWIW, at the end of the model run, VW was selling the W8 engine in crates for about $4k. I think a couple people in my Passat Club ended up pulling the trigger. That was about half of what the dealer would have charged just a year earlier.

Interesting... but if the person who did that custom job truly wanted a sleeper to surprise people with, they should have left the ride height stock and had wheels/tires that look closer to stock.

VR6's are/were available longitudinal in the Touareg/Cayenne. Early years 3.2, later 3.6. Not sure how much they have in common with transverse.

I completely forgot about that, I thought those were the pure V6 3.2, not the VR6 (which graced several Audi models for a few years).
